"Anyone who knows me understands that I usually shy away from the spotlight," remarked David. "But the guys at head office really pulled one over me when Channel Nine’s own Pete Smith caught me on stage and said ‘David Tuckett, This is Your Life’. "It was truly a walk down memory lane and the effort that they’d gone to was truly amazing. They'd dug up old school friends, mates from the Lions Club and even flew in some of my family from Far North Queensland to help me celebrate the event," said David. "It was quite uncalled for, but I must admit I really enjoyed it." “There is no doubt that David will be missed by not only the Tyrepower family, but the broader industry in general and we'd like to take this opportunity to wish David and his lovely wife, Val all the best as they start a new chapter in their lives,” added John Klein, General Manager, Tyrepower Limited.

David Tuckett, one of the tyre industry's most respected and well known identities retired as Chairman of Tyrepower Limited recently after a long and successful career.

David first developed a taste for rubber 38 years ago when he became involved in a Golden Fleece service station with a tyre service attached in Toowoomba, Queensland. "If you told me at the time that I'd still be involved in the Tyre Industry after so many years I wouldn't have believed it," remarked David. After his association with Golden Fleece, David returned to Melbourne in 1975 and opened a tyre service in Camberwell. The early seeds of Tyrepower were forming as seven independent tyre dealers decided to take on the larger players in the industry who, at the time, had a strangle hold on the market in Australia. That was in 1977. David joined forces with Tyepower some six months later and it proved to be the single most important decision in his career. "We knew that together we’d have a better chance of competing with the corporate giants," explained David. "And joining a buying group dedicated to the prosperity of the members like Tyrepower, was definitely the right decision." As we all know, some 30 years later, Tyrepower has grown to become Australasia's largest chain of independent tyre retailers with more than 260 stores throughout the region. David's retirement coincided with Tyrepower's 30th Anniversary celebrations at the Crown Pictured from left to right: David Tuckett greets an old friend; Friends and family gather on stage; Pete Smith catches David by surprise; a glittering congratulations for David from his wife, Val, family and friends on a career in the industry spanning more than 30 years.
